Pathology Requested by Secondary Care
We have had an increasing number of patients attending the surgery for secondary care (hospital) blood tests without the request being made on the shared pathology and radiology system (ICE).
When patients contact us to book an appointment for secondary care bloods, our Care Navigators will check whether there is an outstanding request on ICE.
Please be advised that if the request has not been made, patients should get back in touch with the requesting consultant/department to make the request on ICE, before booking an appointment at the surgery.
This will greatly minimise the risk of pathology results being sent to the incorrect clinician, potentially impacting the accuracy of the test results and efficiency of management/treatment.
